Our quests are offered a great choice of tourist trips. Those who are going to stay in our region only for a day are offered to visit N.Novgorod, Gorodets, Semenov, Svetloyar, Balachna, Chkalovsk, Arzamas, Diveevo, Boldino, Bogoeodsk, Pavlovo, Kazakovo, Makariyev, Lisckovo, etc. Tourist programmes may be either a one-day tour or multi-day of various combinations.
The most popular tourist routes are two-day or three-day programmes in the north and the south of Nizhegorodsky region.
There are a lot of different tourist trips. One of them is a trip to the town of masters Gorodets. You are offered to go on an excursion round the town, to visit the local museum, Countess Panina’s mansion, the shipowner Lapshina’s beautiful house. Children will enjoy visiting the museum of toys. In addition to all these you could be offered an excursion to the factories”Gorodetsckaya Rospis” and “Gorodetsckaja golden embroidery”, trips to the saint spring "Nickolin Klyuch" to the village of potters Smirkino. In the capital of golden Khochloma Semenov you can visit the local museum, the factory “Khochlomskaya Rospis” and even take part in painting matreshkas (Russian wooden dools). You’ll enjoy going round the town which is the architectural monument itself under the open air. In the village of Vladimirskoye it’s worth visiting the museum “Kitezh” and children’s cultural ethnic centre. Tourists are also attracted by the mysterious lake Svetloyar.
The trip is connected with the town of Balachna- the birthplace of the great patriot of Russia Kuzma Minin the leader of the peoples' volunteer corps in 1612 and with the town of Chkalovsk- the birthplace of the Great Russian pilot Valery Chkalov. In Balachna you’ll be offered to visit the local museum, ancient churches, and merchant Chudyackov’s estate. You could also be a participant of the historical performance devoted to Ivan the Terrible epoch or emergency volunteer coros of 1612 and you can take part in the master class on Balachninsky bobbin weaving. Those who are fond of wooden architecture are recommended to visit the village of Yurino where you’ll admire the church of the 18th century erected in honour of Kazan God’s Mother icon. Chkalov. In Chkalovsk tourists visit the memorial museum, after the name of V. P. Chkavov and the local museum "Vasileva Sloboda" the exhibition hall with A. Kamanin’s paintings. Those who are Kun on folklore are recommended to visit the factory producing guipure. In the shop you can buy wonderful souvenirs’. You can also book an excursion to the village of Purech, the eatate of Prince Pozharsky, and visit the museum and Spasopreobrazhensky cathedral.
During your trip you’ll visit the town of the writer Arkady Gaidar’s youth- the town of Arzamas, the ecclesiastical centre of the region Povolzhye - Diveevo and protected corner Bolshoye Boldino. In Arzamas you cold visit Voskresensky Cathedral and Nicolaevsky female monastery, the local museum or the private museum “Mir Starini”(“The World of Past Times”). We recommend visiting the cathedral of Smolensk God’s Mother icon next to Arzamas, in the village of Viezdnoe.
In Diveevo you’ll go on an excursion around the monastery, along the Holy Ditch, visit Svyato-troitsky Serafimo-Diveevsky monastery, kiss the relics of Serafim Sarovsky, saint Alexandra, Elena and Marpha of Diveevo or you can have a trip to the saint Serafim Sarovsky spring and mother Alexandra.
In Boldino you’ll be offered to visit A.S.Pushkin’s museum, the museum of fairy tales and the saint church. We also recommend taking pictures in the costumes of the 19th century and riding in an old carriage to the grove of Luchinnik. In Boldino you could also visit the museum of Mordovian life and take part in various folklore programmes.
During this trip you’ll get acquainted with the town of potters and leather industry- Bogorodsk. In the house of handicrafts you’ll go on an excursion, to the museum of ceramics and you’ll be fascinated by watching the potters work.
In Pavlovo you should visit the local museum and watch the smiths work in the smithy; go on an excursion to the plant of artistic metal goods and Pavlovo bus plant. In February and March you’ll enjoy geese and roosters battles, and in December the festival of canaries. The village of Kazakovo is the birthplace of elegant filigree. At the exhibition hall of the factory a unique collection of the best goods has been collected.
Having got acquainted with the factory you should visit Troitsko-Nickolskaya church
The excursion to the former estate of the Georgian princes (now the town of Lisckovo) with tells you the history of the famous family and the glorious past of Mackariyev Fair. You’ll visit the local museum, Spasopreobrazensky cathedral and Voznesenskaya church. In Mackariyev you’ll go to Mackariyev female monastery and additionally to Kazan God’s Mother church.
This route from Nizhniy Novgorod to the southern-western part of the region will acquaint you with the old industrial district of the region, with the creative work of Pavlovo craftsmen and the oldest metallurgical plant of the region in Viksa.
Pavlovo motorway (Nizhniy Novgorod- Pavlovo- Murom- Kasimov) begins in the city in its southern part and it is the most picturesque motorway in the region. It runs along the high bank of the Oka and the panorama of the river is breathtaking. At the beginning of the motorway you'll see the broad panorama of the part of N.Novgorod situated on the other side of the river, the forest and the former river-bed. This part of the Peremilovskiye hills, stretching along the Oka from Pavlovo to the city border of the regional centre is called Berezopolie.
We are driving on the old Moscow road: up till the 19th century the road to the capital was on the high bank of the Oka in the beginning, then near Gorbatov, Pavlovo or Murom the river was crossed on the ferry and afterwards you were able to make for Vladimir. The first village on the road is Novivki which is famous for its agricultural base of Nizhniy Novgorod agricultural academy.
Those who are interested in the history of the emergency volunteer corps of 1612 are recommended to visit Nizhniy Novgorod- Balachna-Gorodets-Chkalovsk- Kostroma- Yaroslavl-Rostov- Pereyaslavl-Zalessky-Sergiev Posad- Moscow- Vladimir-Murom- Diveevo- Arzamas-N.Novgorod. This route can be called “The Big Gold Ring of Russia”.
