Hunting and Fishing

 

In the Nizhny Novgorod region the dense forest of the southern taiga has been well preserved. This is an ideal habitat for bears, elks, wolves, lynxes, foxes, hares, badgers, hazel-grouses, black cocks, wood grouses and ducks. The Picturesque Oka and Volga, the rivers and lakes team with fish.


The best hunting places are Krasnobackovsky, Sokolsky, Voskresensky, Varnavinsky and Vetluzhsky regions. The time of hunting and daily quota depend upon the kind of an animal. Fishing is allowed all the year round, except the period of spawning from the end of April up to the beginning of June.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Comfortable tourist camps, situated in picturesque places at the hunters’ and fishermen’s disposal. Among them there is a hunting- and fishing camp “Podlisiye” in Krasnobakovsky district, a hunting-and-fishing camp which looks like a floating hotel “The Vasilsurskaya Sloboda” and the camp with wooden cottages in Vorotinsky region. Tourists are accommodated in single, double and triple rooms with all conveniences. Professional huntsmen will help you to arrange fishing and hunting; you can get the necessary equipment and radio communication. Hunters and fishermen are provided with transport, snow-tractors, patrol boats and rowing boats as well as with a device for stand shooting and bikes. You can fire a horse, play billiards or tennis and take a bath.

In addition to Vorotinsky and Krasnobackovsky regions Sokolsky region is also one of the most popular places for hunting and fishing. The region is situated along the river Volga. You can hunt for ducks, geese, black cocks, hazel- grouses, wood-grouses here. If you are lucky you can get elks, wild boars, foxes or wolves. All the banks of the river are fishermen’s favorite places. Using a rod or a spinning you can fish sheat-fish, pike-perches, pikes, breams, chubs, perches, berbots, carps and tenches. Tourists are accommodated in the private houses and cottages with partial conveniences.

 

 In the north of the Nizhny Novgorod region, in Tonkinsky district there is the Tonkinsky nature reserve. It’s the habitat for wild, hoofed and fur-bearing animals. Once you have received permission to hunt in the Tonkinsky district from the State hunting inspectorate through the regional hinting and fishing society, you can hunt for hares, foxes, martens, squirrels, bears, lynxes and elks as well as for ducks, wood grouses, black cocks, geese and hazel grouses. Hunting enthusiasts can stay in small houses and sauna and pool available.

The Voznesensky district offers fishing in the Ilevskie Lakes which consist of 43 basins and cover a total area of 570 hectares. The fishing artel “Blago” is in charge of them. The advantage of fishing in these lakes is that there is no limit on the amount you are allowed to catch. The following fish are raised in the lakes: carp, crucians, darters, roach and pike. Accommodation is available in the “fisherman’s house” with a television and a fridge. Guests also have the sauna, a motorboat and water skis at their discosal.
