The religious community founded in 1634 in the village of Oranka(Bogorodsk district) is where the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary historians tell of how, during the reign of Mikhail Fyodorovich Romanov, a noble and virtuous man called Pyotr Gladkov ordered himself a personal copy of the Vladimir icon, which is said to give the start for his acts of charity. Carrying out her keenest desire revealed to him in a dream, P.Gladkov founded a monastery dedicated to the icon on the Slaviansky hills near the village of Oranka on the outskirts of Nizhniy Novgorod. This icon has saved the monastery from being invaded on more than one occasion.

The monastery is situated among picturesque hills, at the foot of which there are holy springs. Every year on the feast day of St. Cyril and Methodius, the village of Oranka celebrates the Days of Written Old Slavonic (the precursor to modern Russian and other Slavic languages). There are also solemn religious processions twice a year.
Close to the village library there is a museum dedicated to the history of the village and the monastery. Here you can get acquainted with the creative work of the painter Y.Arapin and his pupils.
